Following heavy investment in training and equipment, RSC has become a leading independent electric car service centre specialising in Volkswagen Group (VAG) vehicles, including VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda. Our expert technicians are qualified to IMI Level 4 standard and are TechSafeTM registered, ensuring that you can leave your EV with us and feel reassured that it’s in good hands.
Electric car service
EVs share many similarities with petrol and diesel vehicles – they have wheels, brakes, suspension, lights and electrical systems. But there are a multitude of differences, and so our electric vehicle service offering reflects the differing service requirements that EVs have compared to combustion engine-powered vehicles.
In addition to all of the typical checks conducted during a full or interim service, we’ll perform a full health check on electrical componentry when carrying out an electric car service, including checking the battery and high voltage cables. We’ll also assess the condition of the charging cable and charging port, as well as checking fluid levels and topping up if necessary. Maintaining the thermal performance of the battery and other components is essential, so it’s important to ensure that fluids such as inverter coolant are topped up to the levels specified by the manufacturer. Much like in hybrid vehicles, the traditional friction brakes will be used less in an EV, and as such need checking regularly for debris and rust. EVs also tend to be heavier than cars powered by combustion due to the weight of the battery, and often deliver more torque, which puts suspension components under somewhat more stress as a result. Tyre wear is something else we’ll be looking out for when carrying out an EV service.
Your EV service will be carried out strictly according to manufacturer’s guidance by a fully trained and qualified TechSafeTM registered technician, using the latest tools and diagnostics technology. We will use Original Equipment (OE) parts and lubricants wherever replacement is necessary, unless specified otherwise.
Electric car diagnostics
At Reedley Service Centre we have a reputation through the North West for being able to diagnose and effect repairs on automotive issues that have left other garages stumped. Rather than use a process of elimination, gradually replacing parts until the faulty component is identified, we use our advanced diagnostics tools and many years’ of experience to get straight to the issue. Our approach to electric car diagnostics is cost-effective and ensures your vehicle is back on the road as soon as possible.
EV diagnostics utilise more advanced technologies than diagnostics on vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICEs), and the risk associated with high voltage is significant, hence it’s extremely important than only fully trained and qualified technicians carry out such work. Special high voltage equipment is also required, something we’ve invested in heavily here at Reedley Service Centre. Therefore, you can be assured that our expert staff are able to competently and safely work on your electric vehicle.
Aspects of the vehicle we’re able to monitor include:
- Electric motor/generator and inverter issues
- Inverter coolant levels
- Battery health and charging performance
- Braking system issues
- Air conditioning systems
- Temperature control systems
- Software issues and firmware updates
- Navigation/autopilot updates
- CAN, LIN, FlexRay and other comms issues
- High voltage risk levels
Electric car repair
At RSC, we’re as well-versed in EV repair as we are in traditional ICE systems, and we have the training, qualifications and high voltage tools necessary to provide specialist electric vehicle repair services.
In addition to the extensive range of general repair and maintenance tasks that we carry out on any type of vehicle, we can also handle all manner of EV-specific repairs, such as battery replacement and charging system repair. While EVs are generally considered to require less maintenance than ICE-powered vehicles due to the nature of the componentry, things do occasionally go wrong, but you can rest assured that the experts are on hand should the worst come to pass. Our technicians have encountered all types of electric car repair scenarios and have the experience and training necessary to effect a quick, cost-effective repair using Original Equipment (OE) and according to the manufacturer’s guidance.
