Many mechanics and other independent garages aren’t keen to offer clutch replacement because it can be a time-consuming, complicated process.
At RSC we’re able to make an otherwise complex process seem simple: our skilled technicians have dozens of years’ collective experience and are trained specifically in the replacement of clutches. Our garage is also one of the best equipped independent garages in Lancashire and the North West region.
Does my clutch need replacing?
The symptoms below indicate you may need clutch repair or replacement:
- Spongy, stiff, vibrating or pulsating pedal when you engage the clutch
- Squeaking or growling noise when the pedal is pressed
- Difficulty shifting gear or a grinding noise when you do so
- Momentary loss of acceleration or poor acceleration despite engine racing
If you’re experiencing a lack of acceleration while your engine is racing, this is known as clutch slippage. Slipping is normally caused by a worn clutch disc, and it’s a common problem that people come to us with.
Slipping clutch
So your clutch is slipping – but what does that actually mean?
Clutch slippage is when you press your accelerator pedal and your engine speed increases accordingly, but your car still doesn’t move any faster. If you can imagine accelerating with your clutch down… that’s what you’d experience with a slipping clutch, except your clutch is in its normal position.
This is a problem that will get progressively worse and as it worsens you’ll do more damage to your vehicle, increasing the cost of any subsequent repair.
Clutch repair
With any luck you brought your vehicle to RSC and we found that it just required a replacement clutch cable or another less significant repair than a clutch replacement. If however that wasn’t the case, you’ve still come to the right place – our clutch replacement services are trusted by customers in Nelson, Burnley, Blackburn and even as far afield as Rochdale and Preston.
